Tustin, situated just north of Irvine, boasts award-winning schools, attractive neighborhoods, plus terrific shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. The city’s rolling hills offer picturesque views of the Saddleback mountains, streams, parks, valleys and city lights — all within minutes of the beach.

This Orange County city incorporated in 1927 and contain a balance of residential neighborhoods (single family houses and condos), parks, schools and business space. The community features ample employment opportunities along with extensive recreational venues.

The City of Tustin was chosen in 2009 by Forbes as one of the top 25 towns to live well in America because of its per capita income and short commute to most anywhere in Orange County.

Historically, Tustin has its roots in the 1769 expedition of Gaspar de Portolà. A Spanish expedition led by Fr Junipero Serra named the area Vallejo de Santa Ana — the Valley of Saint Anne. On November 1, 1776, Mission San Juan Capistrano became the area’s first permanent European settlement in Alta California, New Spain. In 1801, the Spanish Empire granted 62,500 acres to Jose Antonio Yorba, which he named Rancho San Antonio — where the cities of Costa Mesa, Orange, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Tustin, and Villa Park stand today. Smaller ranchos evolved from this large rancho including the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana.

After the Mexican-American war, Alta California became part of the United States and American settlers arrived in the area. Columbus Tustin, a carriage maker from Northern California, founded the city in the 1870s on 1,300 acres of land from the former Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. The city was incorporated in 1927 with a population of only about 900. During World War II, a Navy base for anti-submarine airships was established on unincorporated land south of the city. The two giant blimp hangars still stand and are among the largest wooden structures ever built. Suburban growth after the war resulted in increased population, annexation of nearby unincorporated land (including the base), and the development of orchards and farmland into housing tracts and shopping centers. The blimp hangers are still proving their relevance — as of 2013, one hanger is being used by Aeros to develop and build a new breed of airship.

Today, Tustin is a vibrant community of 75,000.

Tustin lies within ZIP Codes 92780, 92781 and 92782.

A bit of trivia: The interiors of the massive blimp hangers of the former Marine Corps Air Station Tustin are very popular with the film industry in Hollywood. In addition to being in constant demand for television commercials, especially automobile, the blimp hangers are often used in A-Tier films. The hangers feature in 1999’s Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, 2001’s Pearl Harbor, and JJ Abram’s Star Trek in 2009, looking quite futuristic as the shuttle hanger at Starfleet.
