Newport Beach, with its 34 miles of waterfront, boasts award-winning schools, attractive neighborhoods, plus new world-class shopping, dining and entertainment venues. The city’s rolling hills offer picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean, mountains, streams, parks, Catalina Island and city lights — every home within minutes of the sandy beach.

The City of Newport Beach incorporated in 1906 and today includes several master planned communities, a 9000 boat harbor, and miles of hills sloping down to the coast. The city enjoys access to the Orange County trail system. Abundant cultural and recreational activities, parks and trails, and youth sports programs further enhance the quality of life of this vibrant city.

Historically, Newport Beach can be viewed as a collection of eight villages:

Balboa Peninsula is a three-mile-long coastal stretch bounded by Newport Harbor on one side and the open ocean on the other. “The Wedge,” one of the most famous body-surfing areas in the world, and the popular boardwalk Ocean Front Walk are found here. Historic McFadden Square is located at the foot of Newport Pier. It is named after the family that helped found the city and build the Santa Ana & Newport Railroad. Just south is Balboa which includes the Balboa Fun Zone, Balboa Pier, and historic Balboa Pavilion. You (and your car) can ride the short Balboa Ferry from here to Balboa Island, all within the city of Newport Beach.

Lido Marina Village offers waterfront dining, shopping, the historic Lido Theater, and expansive harbor views. Over a short bridge sits Lido Isle, a residential neighborhood on one of Newport Harbor’s the seven islands.

Mariner’s Mile is a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway located between the Arches Interchange (where PCH meets Newport Blvd) and Dover Drive to the south. The Mile features yacht sales, marine supply outlets, exotic automobile dealerships, restaurants, and the beautiful Balboa Bay Club.

“Balboa Island” is in reality comprised of three islands – Balboa Island, Little Balboa Island and Collins Island. Its main thoroughfare, Marine Avenue, is lined with curio shops, fine art galleries and restaurants. “The Island” is encircled by a great walking path.

Corona Del Mar, or the ‘Crown of the Sea’, is where you’ll find beautiful Corona Del Mar State Beach and the Robert E. Badham Marine Conservation Area. The “downtown” area along PCH features shops, boutiques and restaurants as well as the famous Sherman Library and Gardens.

Newport Center offers high-rise and mid-rise office and residential buildings, hotels and features Fashion Island — one of the most exclusive shopping, dining and entertainment destinations in all of Southern California.

Newport Coast became part of the City of Newport Beach in 2002. Luxury homes, upscale resorts and the Pelican Hill Golf Course line the coastline and offer breathtaking views of Catalina Island and the Pacific. The historic Crystal Cove State Park boasts three miles of coastline.

The eight Islands of Newport Harbor are: Bay Island, Collins Island, Harbor Island, Lido Isle, Linda Isle, Little Balboa Island, and Newport Island — which are strictly residential areas. Balboa Island features residential and small commercial districts.
