Mission Viejo boasts award-winning schools, attractive neighborhoods, plus terrific shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. The city’s rolling hills and valleys offer picturesque views of the Saddleback mountains, streams, lakes, parks, valleys and city lights — all within minutes of the beach.

This South Orange County city incorporated in 1988 and is one of the largest master planned communities every built in the US. Developed to contain a balance between new residential neighborhoods, parks, schools and business space. Mission Viejo is known for ‘view neighborhoods’ stretched out across winding hills and valleys. The city also has several country club developments including Arroyo Tabuco Golf Course, Casta del Sol Golf Course, and Mission Viejo Country Club. Lake Mission Viejo offers custom-built waterfront homes and condos. Abundant parks and youth sports programs further enhance the attraction of this vibrant community.

Lake Mission Viejo is the gem of the city — a huge man-made lake with two man-made sand beaches surrounded by hillside custom houses and condos, many with sweeping views of the lake and beyond. The lake offers swimming, fishing and boating year round. Fish in the lake include Bass, Catfish and Trout!

Historically, the City of Mission Viejo was part of Rancho Mission Viejo going as far back as 1769. In the early 1960s, development of the land began under the Mission Viejo Company.

Orange County approved the plan for the community in 1979. The first residential units were offered for sale in 1982. In 1988, Shea Properties purchased the Mission Viejo Company. The community incorporated as a city in 2001 and is Orange County’s youngest city. In April 1966, the first residents moved into new neighborhoods near the intersection of La Paz Road and Chrisanta Drive. By 1980, the development of Mission Viejo was largely complete. Today, Mission Viejo is home to some 93,000 residents.

Another bit of trivia: Mission Viejo is Spanish for “Old Mission”. A Spanish mission had originally been built in the area of present-day Mission Viejo, but a lack of water forced a move to nearby San Juan Capistrano. The exact location of the original mission remains a mystery.

Mission Viejo lies within ZIP Codes 92690, 92691, 92692 and 92694.
