Huntington Beach boasts miles of sandy beaches, award-winning schools, shopping, dining and a man-made harbor. Many coastal homes have sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Ocean currents and the position of Catalina Island conspire to make Huntington Beach “Surf City, USA”.

The City of Huntington Beach was incorporated in 1909, when the town of Pacific City ceded its name to its sponsor/developer, Henry Huntington and the new Huntington Beach Company (Henry whose family had made their fortune in real estate and railroading). The move ensured the Red Car (the suburban trolley cars from Los Angeles) would reach the city.

Huntington Beach has some of the best surf breaks in the State. The city has four different facing beaches: Northwest, West, Southwest, and South. Northwest consists of Bolsa Chica State Beach with a length of over three miles. The West consists of ‘The Cliffs’ or ‘Dog Beach’. Everything north of the pier is considered Southwest. South consists of everything south of the pier — primarily two-mile-long Huntington State Beach, which faces almost true South. The ocean waves are boosted by a natural effect — edge-diffraction — of open ocean swells coming around Catalina Island. Swells generated in the North Pacific in Winter and from Southern Hemisphere storms and hurricanes in the Summer are focused on Huntington Beach creating consistent surf all year ’round.

Huntington Harbour is a residential development on the north end of Huntington Beach of consisting five man-made islands on 680 acres — with waterways used for boating. Every December, a boat parade takes place through the waterways and tour boats go around the channels viewing the brightly lighted and decorated homes.

Today, the city of Huntington Beach is Orange County’s largest coastal city, home to some 168,000 people. Employment opportunities abound — major employers include Boeing, Quicksilver, Hyatt Regency, and Cleveland Golf. From business to recreation, the town offers broad opportunities for every resident.

Huntington Beach lies within ZIP Codes 92605, 92615, 92646, 92647, 92648 and 92649.
