Dana Point, boasts award-winning schools, coastal and hillside neighborhoods, plus terrific shopping, new dining and entertainment experiences. The city’s rolling hills offer picturesque views of the Saddleback mountains, streams, parks, valleys, city lights and the Pacific Ocean– all within minutes of the beach. The city has nearly seven miles of prominent coastal bluffs and rolling hills along the Pacific Ocean. One of these bluffs is a promontory known as the Headlands, which overlooks Dana Point Harbor, one of the most significant landmarks on all of the Orange County coastline.

The seaside City of Dana Point incorporated in 1989 and is centered about a man-made boat harbor and its adjacent village. Its 33,000 residents enjoy miles of coastline, hiking trails, a large marina, and a ferry directly to Catalina Island.

Historically, the City of Dana Point began development in the 1920s, but the Great Depression brought an end to that. New development began again, slowly, after the depression and then sporadically over the next 40 years. Today, Dana Point features a balance of homes, businesses, stores and facilities rarely seen outside master planned communities.

Dana Point Harbor provides slips and moorings for over 2,500 boats. Over 50 specialty shops and restaurants line the harbor. The area attracts thousands of visitors annually for shopping, sport fishing, walking, jet skiing, bicycling, parasailing, whale watching and a host of recreational activities. Dana Point Harbor is also considered the gateway to 62-acre Doheny State Park, one of California’s most popular beach facilities. The park offers camping, swimming, surfing, bicycling, hiking, tide pool exploration and more.

Dana Point is approximately half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, and is bordered by the cities of Laguna Beach and Laguna Niguel to the north, San Juan Capistrano to the east, and San Clemente to the south.

All of Dana Point lies within ZIP Code 92629.

A bit of trivia: Dana Point is named after Richard Henry Dana Jr. (1815-1882), author of the classic sea journal, Two Years Before the Mast (1840).
