Aliso Viejo, situated just east of Laguna Beach, boasts award-winning schools, attractive neighborhoods, plus terrific new shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. The city’s rolling hills offer picturesque views of the Saddleback mountains, streams, parks, valleys and city lights — all within minutes of the beach.

This South Orange County city incorporated on July 1, 2001 and is a master planned community developed to contain a balance between residential neighborhoods (single family houses and condos), parks, schools and business space. Several large corporations are headquartered here and the community features ample employment opportunities along with extensive recreational venues. Major employers include Fluor Corp, Pacific Life, QLogic, Quest Software (part of Dell), Pepsi, Lennar, Bausch+Lomb, UPS, and Buy.com. The city enjoys access to the Orange County trail system — ideal for hikers and mountain bike riders. Abundant parks and youth sports programs further enhance the attraction of this vibrant community.

The City of Aliso Viejo was ranked one of “America’s Top 25 Towns to Live Well” by Forbes.com in 2009. This city of roughly 47,000 ranked 16th among the top towns in the entire nation!

Historically, Aliso Viejo was originally part of Moulton Ranch going back to the 1890s. The Mexican government had originally granted to Juan Avila in 1842. In 1976, the Mission Viejo Co. purchased the last 6,600 acres of the ranch to create a new master-planned community. Aliso Viejo was to feature neighborhoods that mix homes, businesses, stores and facilities.

Orange County approved the plan for the community in 1979. The first residential units were offered for sale in 1982. In 1988, Shea Properties purchased the Mission Viejo Company. The community incorporated as a city in 2001 and is Orange County’s youngest city. The entire city lies within ZIP Code 92656.

Another bit of trivia: Aliso Viejo is Spanish for “Old Sycamore”. Can you guess what type of trees dot its hills and valleys?
